چکیده

Understanding the genetic structure of mosquito populations is important for addressing biological and public health issues such as evolution, spread insecticide resistance alleles epidemiology vector-borne diseases. Anopheles gambiae s.l. comprised genetically distinct species that are morphologically indistinguishable. This study therefore aims to establish sibling molecular characterization responsible transmitting malaria parasites in three ecological zones. Sample collection was carried out during rainy season from May December which coincides with peak period vector abundance. Adults laboratory-reared, field-collected larvae this test-mosquitoes were used study. To characterize vectors, DNA extracted tissues An. samples, amplified identified by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Restricted fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) aided identify M ( coluzzi) S s.s.) forms. Neighbor-Joining method infer evolutionary history. s.s. The sequenced samples vegetations closely related accession number KP165373.1. makes available baseline information on monitoring vectors State, Nigeria. Species composition of the Anopheles gambiae complex across eco-vegetational zones in Bayelsa State, Niger Delta region, Nigeria.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Correct vector identification is an important task in the planning and implementation of malaria vector control programmes. This study was designed to provide baseline information on the species composition and distribution of members of the Anopheles gambiae complex in three eco-vegetational zones in Bayelsa state, Nigeria. METHODS Adult mosquitoes were collected by p...

Molecular karyotyping of the 2La inversion in Anopheles gambiae.

The African malaria vector Anopheles gambiae is polymorphic for alternative arrangements on the left arm of chromosome 2 (2La and 2L+(a)) that are non-randomly distributed with respect to degree of aridity. Detailed studies on the ecological role of inversion 2La have been hindered by the technical demands of traditional karyotype analysis and by sex- and stage-specific limitations on the avail...

Variations in species composition and infection rates in Anopheles gambiae s.l. across eco-vegetational zones in Nigeria and Cameroon.

Significant variations in vector biology within and between countries have been reported in malaria epidemiological studies1. It is now generally agreed that a clear understanding of the detailed epidemiology of the disease is a pre-requisite to effective malaria control in the African sub-region2. Anopheles gambiae complex (Diptera: Culicidae) is one of the most efficient vectors of Plasmodium...

Molecular characterization of the malaria vector Anopheles gambiae s.s. in Madagascar.

Anopheles gambiae s.s. Giles (Diptera: Culicidae), the primary African malaria vector, has been characterized at the subspecies level in Madagascar, where only the molecular form S and haplotype gIA occur. The haplotype gIC proposed by other authors was not observed amongst the 35 mosquito genomes sequenced. These S/gIA characteristics are also found on the Comoros archipelago and in continenta...

Molecular characterization of pyrethroid knockdown resistance (kdr) in the major malaria vector Anopheles gambiae s.s.

Pyrethroid-impregnated bednets are playing an increasing role for combating malaria, especially in stable malaria areas. More than 90% of the current annual malaria incidence (c. 500 million clinical cases with up to 2 million deaths) is in Africa where the major vector is Anopheles gambiae s.s. As pyrethroid resistance has been reported in this mosquito, reliable and simple techniques are urge...
